00021 – RICHFIELD was a major west coast brand before and after the war. Richfield was established in California in 1905. In 1917 the first Richfield station at Slauson and Central Avenue in Los Angeles sported the new eagle trademark. The blue eagle was seen all along the coast, from San Diego to Seattle, over stations with pumps in livery of blue and yellow. The company’s twelve story Los Angeles headquarters building, built in 1929, was an art deco treasure in black and gold. In 1966 Richfield merged with Atlantic Oil to form Atlantic Richfield (ARCO) and the eagle disappeared. In 1968 the Richfield building was demolished, to be replaced by the glass and steel boxes of the Arco Towers.
