1/8"00018 – PHILLIPS 66 gasoline came from the Phillips Oil Company of Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Frank Phillips was a prominent collector of western art, and established the Woolaroc Museum near Bartlesville. In 1917, Frank Phillips sent the vice president to Oklahoma City to decide on the name for the newly formed gasoline company. While traveling on Route 66 the vice president commented “we must be doing 60 mph”. The driver replied, “60, hell we are going 66 on Route 66”. When the vice president returned he told Frank Phillips about it. Frank said, “that’s it, we will call it Phillips 66”. The round white sign was introduced in 1928, and the orange shield replaced it in 1930.
